These birds are a real challenge to shoot for a number of reasons, but I like a challenge!
This guy has become somewhat of a regular in the backyard as of late 2018. He's after the doves that congregate around our feeders. Sometimes he leaves quite a mess behind! For this picture, I thought I noticed a big bird swooping into the backyard (with the rapid departure of another bird). I stepped outside - I keep my camera set up just outside the back door when I'm home for the day - and sure enough he was standing in the yard, mostly hidden by a table. I was able to get a few pics of his head. When I tried to maneuver into a better position he took off - he's pretty skittish!
Credit to Shirley for noticing this guy! He's looking for an easy lunch on
a rainy day I'm sure. Fortunately I had the big lens & camera mounted on
the tripod and positioned just outside the backdoor... I was able to quietly
slip out and snap some pics!

Gil advises Notice how long and slim the bird is, especially the tail. Cooper’s Hawks are accipiters, which eat other birds almost exclusively. They like to hang out at bird feeders and pick off the doves.
